Washington, - In his first trip outside the Washington region since entering the White House, President Obama is coming to hard-hit Elkhart Monday to sell his economic stimulus plan, the White House announced today.

The Elkhart-Goshen region's unemployment rate hit 15.3 percent in December, up from 4.7 percent the year before. That was the nation's biggest annual increase for a metropolitan area, according to the Labor Department.

Many of the job losses came from the slowdown in the recreational vehicle industry, with Monaco Coach Corp., Keystone RV Co. and Pilgrim International laying off hundreds of employees.
