    Conclusions:

    1. 58 US NP’s
    2. 28 States & 2 US Territories have NP’s
    3. State & Territory Breakdown as follows

    Alaska - 8
    American Samoa - 1 = 9
    Arizona - 3 = 12
    Arkansas - 1 = 13
    California - 8 = 21
    Colorado - 4 = 25
    Florida - 3 = 28
    Hawaii - 2 = 30
    Idaho - 1 = 31
    Kentucky - 1 = 32
    Maine - 1 = 33
    Michigan - 1 = 34
    Minnesota - 1 = 35
    Montana - 2 = 37
    Nevada - 2 = 39
    New Mexico - 1 = 40

    Texas - 2 = 50
    US Virgin Islands - 1 = 51
    Utah - 5 = 56
    Virginia - 1 = 57
    Washington - 3 = 60
    Wyoming - 2 = 62

    Subtotal NP’s (whole or part) = 62
    in States

    Less dbl/trpl counts

    Death Valley NV - 1
    Yellowstone ID - 1
    Yellowstone MT - 1
Great Smoky Mtn NC - 1

    Subtotal NP’s in Multiple States = -4

    Proof Total 62 - 4 = 58

I can see how you might have gotten 62 but don’t know how you figured 61 and curiousity killed… well you know

That’s all folks… and to think all I wanted to do was check information about RV tires!!! Thanks for warning on Chinese manufactured tires.

  4. Jim Kalina Says:

What is your source for answer to this trivia question?

    1. How many national parks are in the U.S.? —- 61

because the answer is actually 58

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_National_Parks_by_state

is one source BUT Wikipedia’s emphasis is on how many states have entire OR pieces of one or more National Parks.

Their presentation distorts the actual number of National Parks because:

    1. Death Valley NP is counted twice for CA & NV. HQ and majority of Death Valley NP is in CA.

    2. Yellowstone NP is counted three times for ID, MT, & WY. Vast majority and HQ is in Wyoming.

    3. Great Smoky Mtn NP is counted twice for NC and TN. HQ is in TN (Gatlinburg) but NP is pretty equally divided between the two states.

If Wikipedia was your source, the “double and triple dips” may be the reason you got the wrong answer of 61 vs correct answer of 58.

I’m real keen on the number as I’m trying to visit them all. So far I’ve been to 53 (including American Samoa) and just lacking 5 of the 8 in Alaska, 2 that are north of the Artic Circle. Brrr.

    Blessings,

    Jim

PS: Again, I’m curious what your source was and if that source knows something that I don’t. I’ll stand corrected and increase my travel plans by 3 more parks if 61 is the case.
