1. Regarding a Common RV Dealer Show, the Marine Industry has been doing one for years under the name Marine ONE. Not all WDs are part of it, but it’s a template to build off of.

2. Regarding Show Costs
There is a lot of discussion among the RV Suppliers about this. There should be many other ways to support the distributor during this off-year. Suppliers are willing to spend the money, but would be willing to look at alternative creative ways other than going to a Show that MIGHT NOT BRING IN THE DEALERS.

It is this writers' option that if we had 100% dealer attendance at a show and if we had good quality time with ALL of them, we would be OK with walking away with fewer "Show Orders". A show structure that gives us the opportunity to REALLY talk to the dealer, give them the features & benefits of our products and see what we are doing right & wrong might be the most important thing at a show.

John thinks big! Vegas isn't exactly the place to cut down on show costs. I've only done SEMA, though, so maybe there are less expensive options. Hensley doesn't do many trade shows. They've never been cost effective for us. We are actually doing more consumer shows this season, however. We're getting streamlined in our show shipping, which is a big part of our cost. Airline tickets aren't cost prohibitive yet, but the direct flights seem to be a thing of the past, so we have to allow more travel time. We look for low cost motels (I just need a bed) and even stay in campgrounds at the shows nearby (Hershey has a great RV park). We've also come to the conclusion that more bodies does not result in more sales, so we keep our show manning to one or two salesman. We've cut close to 30% out of our show costs without cutting anything out of quality.

We are a supplier of accesory and furniture to the RV industry.
My suggestion is one "RV/Distributor Super Show", probably in Vegas, for all distributors to display their products and programs. This will cut costs for all concerned, distributors, dealers and manufacturers. It would be up to the distribuots to market effectively and draw dealers to their booths, much like what manufacturers must do at RVIA.
Cordially,
John Fischer
